Allergy Research Group Modified Citrus Pectin Powder is a dietary supplement containing modified citrus pectin. It has low molecular weight and is more effective and better absorbed compared to regular pectin.

Pectin is a naturally occurring polysaccharide found in the peel and pulp of citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, grapefruits and apples. This pectin is not absorbed by the body so in modified form it is broken down for better absorption through the gut and effective utilisation.

Modified citrus pectin is different compared to other pectin because of the way it is prepared. To reduce the weight, It is modified by a proprietary process.

Research studies on modified citrus pectin powder:

  • Modified citrus pectin has immunomodulatory activity because it increases the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-17, IFN-γ and TNF-α levels.
  • The large size of pectin prevents intestinal absorption. Modified citrus pectin is a modified form of pectin and has a low molecular weight of <15 kilodaltons so it is easily absorbed from the small intestinal epithelium into the circulation.
  • Modified citrus pectin when combined with live probiotics can improve the intestinal lactobacilli microbiota.
  • The combination of Honokiol, a purified extract from magnolia bark and Modified citrus pectin is synergistic and has potent antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Modified citrus pectin when used with live probiotic L. acidophilus improved the integrity and number of the intestinal microbiota.
